Gardens, people, and the spaces that bring them together
ABOUT megan
My background is in hospitality, where I spent decades leading teams and managing environments centred around people and experience.
Working in restaurants taught me far more than service. It taught me how to read a room, anticipate needs, navigate personalities and bring people together around a shared vision. It also taught me that the success of any idea relies not just on creativity, but on communication, coordination and thoughtful execution.
That way of thinking naturally led me toward landscape design.
I recently completed a Diploma of Landscape Design at Holmesglen Institute and, in 2026, designed and delivered a Gold-awarded show garden at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. The project involved managing the full process from concept through to sourcing, sponsorship, coordination and construction.
What interests me most is the space between concept and reality — where projects either hold onto their original intent or slowly lose it through process, pressure and competing priorities.
In hospitality, I was never the chef creating the menu. I was the person translating the vision into an experience people could connect with. Aligning teams, solving problems in real time, building trust and making sure the whole thing worked.
That is the role I naturally gravitate toward in design and public realm projects as well.
I’m particularly interested in collaborative projects that require operational thinking, stakeholder engagement and a strong understanding of how people actually experience spaces in the real world.
Alongside my professional work, I am currently developing a pro bono landscape project for the YWCA Richmond House women’s shelter in Melbourne, focused on creating restorative, welcoming outdoor spaces that support wellbeing, dignity and connection.
